About Off Grid Data
Off Grid Data is a 3D animation studio for energy and data center power, powered by Stone Graphic Design.
What we do
The studio makes 3D animation for the companies that make and build data center power: gas turbines and reciprocating gensets, fuel cells, batteries, switchgear and electrical rooms, microgrids, liquid cooling, modular data centers, gas-to-power systems and whole behind-the-meter campuses. Product explainers, cutaways and exploded views, plant and campus flythroughs, trade-show loops, investor and permitting visuals, and interactive 3D and training. See the studio.
The site also has 186 free guides and five calculators on how data centers and remote sites get their power: behind-the-meter plants, natural gas, flare gas, microgrids, batteries, cooling, interconnection and costs. Writing them keeps us fluent in the equipment we animate.
Powered by Stone Graphic Design
Stone Graphic Design is a long-standing Oklahoma 3D animation and graphics firm for the oil and gas industry. Off Grid Data runs as its own studio and site, with Stone Graphic Design's team, tools and production pipeline behind it. Quotes and contracts for Off Grid Data projects are issued by Stone Graphic Design.
Who is behind it
Off Grid Data is led by Wes Davis of Stone Graphic Design. Wes has spent his career in eLearning, multimedia, 3D animation and indie film, and in 3D animation and graphics for the oil and gas industry. Stone Graphic Design has built more than 300 interactive eLearning courses, which is why interactive 3D and training are part of what we offer. That work means years of explaining complicated equipment so people can understand it, which is the whole point of the studio and the guides.
Editorial standards for the guides
- Sources first. Guides are checked against public sources: the U.S. Energy Information Administration, national laboratories, grid operators, regulators, standards bodies and equipment makers. We link to them so you can check us.
- Math you can see. When we estimate, we show the inputs. Our calculators print their formulas.
- Fair to everyone. Developers, utilities, ratepayers and neighbors all have real interests. We try to explain each side honestly.
- No paid coverage. The guides are paid for by studio work. Vendors never pay for coverage, and we say so if a guide ever mentions a studio client's product.
- Corrections. If we get something wrong, tell us. We fix it and note the update date on the page.
- Not advice. Nothing here is engineering, legal, tax or investment advice. Real projects need licensed professionals.
